ROSE'S COURSES

Scroll down to browse our selection of courses, all available at the Rose Parker Galeria de Arte in Plaza Toneleros by the Tourist Information Office in Puerto de Mazarron. Although i am now offering Live One to One Online Teaching as well.   The courses are designed to give you "real" artistic skills and techniques although of course there will be time for complimentary beverages and cakes. Group sizes vary between 2 and 6 and the fees are 12.50€ per hour. To reseve a place on a course please use the buttons below to view more details and make a deposit. COURSES

Venue: Rose Parker Galeria de Arte, Calle Toneleros 19, Puerto de Mazarron.
Length: 4 weekly lessons - 2 hours each (some flexibility with timings).
Cost: 100€ (12.50 per hour) and includes refereshments, cakes and snacks.

BEGINNERS DRAWING 


Course outline: 

On this course drawing for beginners we are going to cover these topics:
1. Pencils types, tonal value ladder. Drawing and shading basic volumes to give 3D
form.
2. Shading with hatching, cross hatching and drawing textures.
3. How to scale up using a grid.
4. Looking at composition & the spaces between: negative space.  

DRAWING TO GIVE THE ILLUSION OF THREE DIMENSIONS

Course outline:

We are going to cover these topics over 4 weekly lessons of 2 hours each:
1. Drawing and shading basic volumes to give 3D form.
2. Creating complex shapes.  
3. Aerial perspective and one point perspective. e.g. in a room or on a road.
4. Two point perspective and 3 point perspective; buildings, landscapes, skyscrapers.

ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS WATERCOLOURS COURSE -**Introduction to Technique**  

Course outline: 

On this Absolute Beginners watercolours course we are going to cover these topics:
1. How much water do you need to add to the pigment? The colours of the colour wheel, cool colours and warm colours and what happens when you mix secondary colours.
2. The effect of one wash placed over the top of another. What happens when you place contrasting colours next to one another?
3. Mixing tertiary colours. How to mix a black/not black.Dropped in colour and backruns.
4. Lifting out color, graduated wash, two or three colour washes.

BEGINNERS WATERCOLOURS COURSE 

Course outline

On this beginners watercolours course we are going to cover these topics:
1. How to paint a flat wash, graduated wash and two colour wash. Wet in wet, wet on dry and dry brushwork.
2. How to leave white paper. 
3. Wet in wet fish using salt effects and clingfilm.
4. Painting cuboids using washes. Houses in landscapes. 

WATERCOLOURS IMPROVERS (FLOWERS) 


Course outline:
 
On this Watercolours Improvers’ course we are going to cover these topics:
1. Botanical style flowers. Tight style like when using gouache.
2. Building up flowers one petal at a time wet in wet style. Using cool colours to show
shadow.
3. Totally wet in wet style
4. Using the tight style to bring the focus to the foreground and using wet in wet style for the background to create depth to the picture.
 

INTERMEDIATE WATERCOLOUR COURSE - ANIMALS AND BIRDS

Course outline:
On this intermediate watercolours course we are going to cover or revisit these topics:

1. How to use the wet in wet technique to paint loosely. The effect of salt sprinkled onto wet in wet colours. How to add details with aquadrop pens.
2. The effect of using a water spray onto an image to create a fur effect.
3. How to use thin colour washes of either warm colours or cool to achieve a three dimensional effect and the use of detail in one part of the image.
4. Using the techniques from the previous three lessons to use a photo as a reference to create a loose style watercolour painting.

DRAW YOUR PET COURSE


Course outline:
 
On this course How to draw your pet we are going to cover these topics:
1. Composition and negative space to get proportions right.
2. Creating a three dimensional portrait: tonal value, contrast, line quality
3. Colour theory, is white actually white and is black actually black?
4. Final colour pastel drawing: putting it all together. 
 

BEGINNERS ACRYLICS PAINTING COURSE - MARGARITAS


Course outline:
 
On this beginners acrylics painting course we are going to cover these topics.
1. How to prepare the canvas. What keys are used for and how to put them into the frame.
How to prepare the surface of the canvas and what gesso is, how it helps. How to make             your own gesso for a fraction of the price.
2. How to analyse the composition of a painting.
3. How to draw out your design and composition. Why would you not use graphite pencil? How to use underpainting to bring parts of the painting forward or make it recede.
4. Learn different paint techniques, using two brushes with different colours on to blend together, use a spatula to spread pint on, smooth together colours using a fan brush.
Building up from general painting to putting in details or highlights last. 
 

IMPROVERS ACRYLICS PAINTING STILL LIFE COURSE

Course outline:
On this painting course to improve your experience with acrylic paint we are going to cover these topics.

1. How to set up a suitable Still Life. What qualities are you looking for? Will there be harmonious colours or contrasting? What will provide the point of interest? How are you going to introduce a variety of texture?
2. How to analyse the composition of a still life suitable for painting.
3. How to draw out your design and composition. How to use underpainting to bring parts of the painting forward or make it recede.
4. Learn different paint techniques, using two brushes with different colours on to blend together on something like leaves that change colour. Use of the spatula to spread paint on, or stippling with the brush. Building up from general painting to putting in details or highlights last.

INTERMEDIATE ACRYLICS PAINTING COURSE - BOATS

Course outline:
On this intermediate acrylics painting course we are going to reinforce these topics.

1. How to prepare the canvas. What keys are used for and how to put them into the frame. How to prepare the surface of the canvas and what gesso is, how it helps. Why you might add a tint to the gesso. How to make your own gesso for a fraction of the price.
2. How to analyse the composition of a painting.
3. How to draw out your design and composition. Use painted lines to draw in the boats and rocks. How to use underpainting to bring parts of the painting forward or make it recede.
4. Learn different paint techniques, using two brushes with different colours on to blend together, use a spatula to spread pint on, smooth together colours using a fan brush. Building up from general painting to putting in details or highlights last.

ADVANCED DRAWING COURSE - PORTRAITS

Course outline:

On this drawing course we will cover these topics:

1. Face proportions
2. How to draw a realistic eye.
3. How to translate the face proportions into a three quarter view of a face.
4. Drawing a portrait and self portrait from life.

Please note: faces are difficult subjects and you should feel confident in your basic drawing ability. Please contact Rose to discuss whether it would be appropriate to start with the Beginners Drawing Course before advancing to portraits.

CUSTOM ONE TO ONE LIVE ONLINE COURSE WITH ROSE

1. This course will be custom one to one live online teaching.
2. The course will be tailored to your own requests.. You may choose any of the content from all courses included on this website. Or why not discuss your own project with Rose?
